FIFA 10 PS3

I have been playing EA Sports/FIFA since 1998 World Cup and just about every year I say to myself, "How can I justify paying $60 for the new version?" But, just like EA wants me to do, I buy it just about every year...
For me though, I think I've got my money's worth out of FIFA 10. It's always fun to play/ waste time with when I should be doing something more productive with my life. The action is pretty much non-stop once the game gets started, so soccer has always been awesome on the consoles. For me, the fast pace is a great reason why I buy a soccer game every year - no timeouts, no call-the-next-play, no pitch-selection, no free-throws, etc.
Things I like about FIFA 10:
The Create-a-player is very good. I like that you can gather experience/level up's in different areas of the game. So if you're playing in the practice arena, you can get points there. If you're playing with your created-player in the Manager Mode, you can get points there.
Gameplay is good. Actually when I started, it was a little frustrating in that it's definitely harder than in previous years to score goals. It does take practice. Even dropping the difficulty down a level, it was still quasi-difficult to score when the teams are evenly matched.
I've played a few (not a lot) online games. My experience there has been pretty good/ pretty stable. Sometimes I will get a game that is really lagging/ slow. I suspect that it's either my internet connection or my opponent's though. I've found that it's either a nail-biting close match or I get completely destroyed.
Graphics are great. Animations are good. The number of real-life stadiums is pretty good too. And I know it's lame to say, but I actually like the soundtrack.
Things I don't like:
Skill moves - as another reviewer mentioned, the skill moves are difficult to use in most matches, so I don't really use them a lot.
OFF THE POST! - as other reviewers have mentioned too, an absurdly annoying amount of shots end up hitting the post. That issue drives me crazy.
Manager Mode - This is where I've spent hours of my time. Overall I'm just not really loving this piece as much as I would like to. I want it to be something epic, but it's just blah. It's not significantly better than last year's. The transfers are easy to understand though. I've taken to now just searching for Any status (instead of For Sale only) and buying players from lesser divisions for cheaper fees/much cheaper weekly wages.
EA, I would love it if you could do something where you create your own club in the bottom-most division of England/Germany/Spain/Italy/etc. You would create your own Team Name, City, Colors, Jersey Pattern(s), Alternate Jerseys, Sponsors (and how that would look on the jersey), Customize your Stadium, Name your Stadium. Then you would start your journey with some random players and a budget. Then over the process of 10-20 seasons, you try to work that club up to the Premiership/Bundesliga/La Liga/etc, and into the Champions League, etc. Now, that is what Manager Mode is missing in my opinion.
Overall though, FIFA 10's a great game especially if you don't have last year's already. I feel like I get my money's worth out of it, so that is why I keep coming back year after year. I'm generally happy with the game. |
Great game to have

FIFA Soccer 10
I tried this game at my friend's place and was addicted right from the start. The multi-player online mode allows you to play with people from all over the world. There's a mode which allows you to play head to head with another player. Additionally, there's a team play mode, where you're able to play with up to 21 players and you get to choose the position that you're in. Of cos, fastest fingers first.
The multi-player online mode of the key features of this game that makes me buy this game. Computer AI are not as flexible and unpredictable as the skills of a real life opponent. It is ,of cos, more challenging to play with a good player who's sitting in front of his TV playing this game with you. This coupled with the decent graphics and music makes it a must have for people who loves soccer console games.

I bought this because my boyfriend wanted it, and he seems to really like it. Specially the fact that he can play against his friends through the internet.
Good graphics and I even like the music. I am not very helpful but I am not an a FIFA games expert. |

| The graphics are great and the controls are not complicated. I am now a big fan of soccer especially the English Premier League and La Liga. Have not tried the online aspects of the game but playing against the CPU is fun and there are tons of teams to choose from. |
The Greatest soccer game yet!

For anyone whose played any FIFA game in the past, you can expect this game to provide endless hours of intense fun and competition. There are a few changes, however...all for the best. The players have full 360 degree control, whereas in past FIFA games a player can only move up, down, left, right, and diagonally in each respective direction. The dribbling system for tricks has been improved and works great!
My only flaw is it seems the computer rarely gets any foul called, yet when I'm playing, I get called on for many more things, even when I reach the ball first. Maybe they did it to speed up the game so it wouldn't stop so often because of fouls, but it's very one-sided, almost as if the refs were programmed to favor the CPU. That's really the only flaw I have. The goalies are a lot smarter, the shooting is simple but not limited, and the pace of the game seems perfect to me. The graphics are really good, and the soundtrack is different but fits the game rather well (minus a few annoying tracks).
Overall, I give this game a 9/10 simply because of the way the fouls are called to CLEARLY favor the CPU. there's always room for improvement, but I like FIFA 10 much better than FIFA 09. |

I'm a huge fan of the FIFA series, but I never enjoyed playing any of the PS3 FIFA games until now. Simply stated, I hated the feel, and the new controller configurations that had been changed once the new system came out. The newer PS3 versions of FIFA just never felt as real, and I always found myself chasing the game / feeling frustrated in the end. The bottom line is that I wasn't having any fun playing the PS3 FIFA series, I was enjoying myself a lot more playing my FIFA 2007 for the PS2 system. That was until I took a chance on PS3 FIFA 2010. Personally, I think FIFA 2010 is the first, and only FIFA release for the PS3 that isn't broken...
All of the issues I was having with FIFA 2008 / 2009 for the PS3, FIFA 2010 has corrected / made major improvements. This is without question the greatest FIFA release to date in my opinion. The gameplay is smooth / fast paced, the players move extremely well, and the graphics are just out of control incredible. What I really enjoyed though is the gameplay, and the physical nature the various players possess. You wont find a more realistic feel to a soccer game than FIFA 2010 in my opinion. I'm happy to say that they finally got it right this time!!!...
SOLID 5 STARS

| FIFA 10 has a great dribbling and control system. Dancing down the field as Lionel Messi is an incredible experience. Creating your own player is also an entertaining experience as you have to work to increase your player's abilities. The manager mode is good, though the random messages that used to pop up are no longer there. In addition, there is no World Cup feature which is sad because it is a World Cup year :( |
Poor control design

Played FIFA from 98 and this 2010 is only worse to none. Poor switching control, come on, it is a PS3, can someone figure out an algorithm that would make a little bit more sense? I hate to see my defenders chasing around just because the game refuses to switch to another one that is better positioned. You do not have to change everything to make a product new? Is EA following Microsoft now?
It is the first time for me to have a hardware issue with games, the disc simply cracked.
Overall, poor quality game. I will give PES a try. |
Fun to play online.

| I bought this game for $35 when Amazon had their Black Friday sale. I had always been a fan of Fifa and I was getting a PS3 soon, so I just jumped at the chance to purchase this game. This game is actualy quite frustrating. For example, when I'm on the field using the slightest of tackles to get the ball away from the opponent, the ref stops the game calling it a foul. This happens way too many times in the game. I have been fouled many times by the oponents, where I'd be back flipping, rolling on the ground, even injured and the ref never once stopped the game and issued me the foul. Fifa 07 is the last soccer game I played and I believed Fifa 10 would be close to that level, or atleast vastly improved. In manager mode, the sponsor info isn't that detailed as it was in Fifa 07. Transfer listing are real easy to navigate however. Another gripe I have about this game is that sometimes I find that the goalkeeper as been "magically" replaced with an outfielder. I'm still baffled as to how this could have happened. I think I'll just buy a PS2, so I could get the best soccer game in my opinion, Fifa 07. |

| Although I have always enjoyed FIFA because of their liscencing and thus having so many real teams, leagues and players .... if truth be told for years Pro Evolution Soccer has been far superior as a playing experience, graphically and otherwise. Last year the gap was narrowed to nothing. THIS year? FIFA is now leaving PES in their rearview mirror. This is the best soccer sim I've ever played, it is outstanding, and so many of the new features are so engrossing. I absolutely love this game, it is incredible! |

Commentator AI is nauseatingly bad (who cares, doesnt affect gameplay; mute it); manager mode has peculiar ways of evaluating manager's progress.
Online play is fantastic. Quick and easily laid out. Only complaint is that so few users actually use headsets on this version.
CPU AI seems to learn user's style of play, forcing different tactics or else possession is stolen, goalkeeper makes more frequent saves, etc. Much more difficult skill levels. |

| I have bounced back and forth between PES and FIFA, but this year, FIFA completely takes the cake. While the graphics in PES are slightly better, the game play in FIFA far exceeds PES 10. FIFA also includes all your favorite teams and has the largest selection of leagues and nations. The online gameplay is also nice, and you can even download your face onto your virtual pro. Its funny to watch you character score and then you see your face doing the selebration. True soccer fans will be able to appreciate this game. |

Nothing's New, But Everything's Better

[Skip to * if you just want the bare bones review.]
I have Fifa 09 for my PS3...I love it. It probably has worked more hours than any of my other games. But then I started seeing these ads on TV for Fifa 10 saying it was the best soccer game to date and showing all these cool video clips and making my Fifa 09 game look like Paper Boy for the Nintendo (awesome game by the way.) And I'm definitely not one of those people that has to have the newest game so the only solution was to turn off my TV so I wouldn't be tempted. Well that worked for a few minutes. Fast forward to Thanksgiving Break and I found myself checking out some Amazon deals and I stumbled across Fifa 10 for $35...and I bought it.
A week later I put the game into my PS3 and was almost instantly disappointed...it looked almost exactly the same as Fifa 09. Sure they changed the menu a little and what not, but it was then that I realized what could they have made better...I mean Fifa 09 is a crazy awesome game, what should I have expected?
*But then I play a match and WOW, what an upgrade. Again, nothing dramatically different, but instead dramatically in tune: ball touch is better, pushing people off the ball is more realistic, free kicks are better, the commentators have more than 10 lines to say, more control over conditions, more control over ball curve, and I could go on. Nothing new, but everything's better. I definitely recommend the game over any soccer game...or rather just any game.

I've bought this game pretty long ago and have been playing it almost everyday. This game is simply fantastic. I haven't gotten tired playing it unlike any other games I own. I'll simply tell you the pros and cons as it makes it easier for you to determine the game's overall quality.
pros:
1. The graphics are so realistic that my family thought it was a real soccer match on TV. All the player's movements, injuries, referee's movements, goalkeeper's movements are incredibly realistic. If you have an HDTV, be prepared to be amazed.
2. The gameplay is smooth and fun. You won't get bored.
3. Difficulty level increased. This time, it's more difficult to score a goal which makes the game more challenging.
4. The goalkeeper actually comes out of the penalty box when needed to save the goal. They're much more involved in the match unlike previous versions of FIFA.
5. A lot of match types. Online play is nicely organized.
6. The sound quality is awesome. Everything you hear is crystal clear.
7. Penalty kicks and free kicks are much more better.
cons:
1. The commentary is repetitive and can be boring sometimes. There should have been more selection of commentators.
2. Although I understand the challenging nature of the game this year, I strongly feel that the shots of most of the players suck. The shots are very poorly designed and only the higher rated players can shot properly. Others' shots will go way far from the goal bar unless it's an impossible-to-miss goal. It gets annoying.
3. Tournament mode could be better. There is no match with golden goal/extra time/penalty kicks in any of the tournament modes. It's a huge letdown as I have to finish drawn matches without any excitement of extra time or penalty.
4. In virtual pro, you can put your face on the game by uploading your face online and downloading it in your game. However, it takes forever for the website to create it for you. In most cases, it doesn't even work.
5. The celebration is the same as last year. Some new selections of goal celebrations would be appreciated. |

Not your father's Fifa. Much better graphics, better AI, better player skills. It makes the soccer more realistic, thus it is not easy to score, especially at the hardest level.
You need to practice and develop your skills to beat the computer opponent. If you are 10 years old, you'll master it in few days, if around 30 like me, it takes some time to use all the buttons on the pad :)
To sum it up, it is better than its competitor. Yes.. There I say it, better than PES. |
