Do what they say they do... kind of

I bought these pads at a local gaming store around six months ago, and they have been installed on my Rock Band 2 drum kit ever since. Drumming is somewhat quieter, but don't expect miracles. Beating the snot out of anything the way you do in this game is going to produce at least some racket. The best reason I found to use this product, however, is more as a protective cover for the drum pads. I no longer feel like I'm going to break the drums simply by using them as they were intended. I feel using these pads would add tremendously to the life of the equipment. I also think that the drums look and feel much better with them installed. The rubbery coating on the drums seemed to collect lint and fuzz in my house, like those silicone phone covers do in a jean pocket. These are slick and smooth and feature the Rock Band logo.
Take heed, though, in installing these things. As many other reviewers have pointed out, there are no installation instructions, and they aren't as easy a fit as you would think. To me, the "correct" way to install them shouldn't require any trimming. Therefore, I personally removed the colored rings around each drum in the same way a prior reviewer detailed. The pads then fit like a charm. Be extremely careful in doing this, however, as there are some sensitive parts in there and you really don't want to break your drum kit.
Other than the less-than-intuitive installation, I find these pads very convenient and nice looking. I would recommend them to anyone, as long as you are careful when putting them on. |

| I was looking for these to decrease the noise of hitting the drum pads. I'd say they make the sound more of a "thump" and less of a sharp "click", but the total volume is probably only decreased maybe 25% - which is way less than I was expecting. |
install busted my drums for nothing. read why as a warning

OK, first off, this item comes with ZERO instructions. Nothing. No hint at how to use them. Thankfully, there's Amazon reviews, where I read several step by step instructions.
Yes, popping the drum pads off takes more force than is comfortable, but is definitely doable. BUT... the thick rubber stoppers that attach the drum pads to the base are themselves attached to the drum pads with -- get this -- glue. Popping the pads off sometimes made the stoppers simply pop out of their holes. That's good.
Other times, the stoppers stayed in the holes and separated where they were glued to the pad. That's bad.
On one drum pad, all 4 of the stoppers separated from the pad. Now it's impossible to get the pad to fit correctly back on the drum base. It kinda sits there, but... just kinda.
As if that's not bad enough, the real "tragedy" is that after all this, the noise is maybe 10% quieter. Slight difference, not enough for me to be able to use the drums when my family is asleep, though. As in, not even close. Still wakes my wife and son up.
So I wrecked my drum heads for nothing.
Gonna try to return the item, but not looking forward to the gluey residue that must be left on top of the drums now, Eegads. Worst purchase I've made in quite a while. Not just for the $20, but for ruining my brand new drum kit. |
Not what I had hoped for

Previous reviews have pretty well covered this, but as silencers go, these are next to useless. They don't fit snugly on the drums, so you need to hit harder to compensate. The solution is to trim the silencers for a better fit, but that really shouldn't be the buyer's responsibility. They are effective at protecting the drum surfaces though, which is why I'm giving them a 3-star rating.
I paid retail for this set and regret it. It might be worthwhile if you find them at a discount and have the patience to cut them down to size, but otherwise they're just not worth it. |

| The silencers are to big and needed to be trimmed to fit the drum pad.If you dont trim them to fit inside the ring on the drum pad they keep falling off.Once trimmed they work alot better. |

| Worked great until the two-year-old figured out you could just peel them off. Now they function as a semi-sticky set of frisbees. |
Nice to have

I decided to get these because my friends drum pads wore out(I guess the sensor on the inside got hit too hard/much). I thought these would help protect and lengthen the life of my drums. Have used for over a year and they have worked perfectly. They look much nicer in my opinion too. The adhesive is strong enough too, as long as you don't pull up on the pad once its placed. Position well the first time.
Oh ya, don't do much for silencing. But they are worth it as drum protectors. |
Worked for me!

| I have the first set of drums and thought I would have to take the outer rim off before applying the pads. I didn't want to take them apart and risk breaking something, so I put them on top of the ring and pressed as hard as I could to make them stick. I have had no problem with them whatsoever. As a matter of fact, I LOVE them! I can hear the music now instead of the tapping! |
Nice silencers

| The pads do not really silence the drums, but it eliminates the annoying noise made when the sticks hit the metal perimeter of a drum (if not aimed properly). It's a sticky pad, and I preferred it to be worn over the drum to allow easy install & removal. I think the price is too high for this product, and I could have spent that money on a new game. |

| I simply stuck these on top of my existing drums. I then recalibrated each game with which I used the drums. Noise reduced approximately 50%. Excellent! |
they quiet the drums, but they're not simple peel and stick

Like just about everyone else has said, remove the plastic rings before putting these on. They should have made these smaller to fit within the rings. I give them 4 out of 5 stars for not making them fit easily.
But, they do the job as promised. They do quiet the tap tap of the drums.
I did not pull apart my drums to install like everyone else says to do. Instead, I cut the rings off. I used a very sturdy pair of snips to cut the screws flush that are holding the rings on. I took off the plastic rings in peaces. Then, I Super Glued the remaining part of the screws in place so that they do not rattle. You can't see my "butchery" as all of that is hidden by the new pads. And, I never had to take anything apart - which is why I did it that way.
Also, if you use these, you will not need the rubber tip sticks and actually will prefer the bounce of the regular sticks. |

| I am currently addicted to Rock Band. I play drums a lot and was worried about them wearing down over time. These pads make me feel like I can bang away all day and not have to worry about it. As far as silencing, I would say it reduces hit noise by about 40%. Also, it changes the sound of the tick to something much more bearable. I have not noticed any problems with missed notes, but I did remove the plastic ring on the drum as is instructed in other reviews! All this, plus the fact they make my drums look ump-teen times cooler than the boring grey. Would definitely recommend this product!!! |
Silence..? Not really!

These pads do quiet normal drumming on your kit, BUT, you have to hit MUCH HARDER to be sure to trigger the drum pad as it is now insulated from the stick, so the result is that you have to play harder, and the sound increases so that it is about as loud as it was without them!!!!
I took them back off... the sound is about the same, but the heads are now more accurate and I'm striking them more softly.
Do yourself a favor. Get the Ion drum set. It is totally pro, and very very quiet.
Very.
You will be amazed! |

| We tried disassembling the drums like the other dude suggested, well that made it so you can't screw the rim back on. We ended up just sticking them to the top covering the rim. Be sure to clean the drums with alcohol before sticking. There was NO calibration or timing issues, they play great. You can still hear some tippity tap, but overall they are WAY better! |

| Our family just got these today, and they are already paying off. One thing that I really like about these is that they DO cover the entire drum head, including the rim. My kids are always pounding away on the drums, and oftentimes hitting the grey rim around the drum more than the drumhead itself; no matter where they hit, these covers soften the blow. These silencers help out deadening the sound quite a bit -- not so much during the actual drum strike, but it lessens the reverberation afterwards that used to shake the floor. None of us are good enough to truly comment on if our accuracy is affected -- all I know is that because of these silencers, I rest a little easier when my 6-year old pounds away during "Psycho Killer". |
Not worth it

I just bought these after a couple of rock band sessions at my new place. I was hoping that they would silence the noise from hitting the pads quite a bit (they are called silencers after all). I placed one silencer over my red RB2 drum pad (I didn't remove the plastic rim) and compared noise with and without silencers. Excepting hitting the plastic rim, however hard I hit, the silencer performed the same as a naked pad. I was very disappointed to find this as these are $20. They DO however give a little bit more bounce back on the stick, but that is about all I noticed.
Perhaps the trick is to stick them on under the plastic rim? But all in all, after hearing that they cause you to lose hits when playing I'd say these are not worth getting. |

| I am very pleased with the Rock Band Drum Silencers!! They make a huge difference in noise reduction. Don't waste your time like I did and buy some knock-off drum pads. Go ahead and spend a few extra bucks and buy the real thing. |

| I bought Rock Band 2 when it first came out and within a month, they had to send me new drum pads because the red and yellow ones bubbled to the point where they didn't register the hits anymore. I got the new drum pads installed and about 6 months later, they started doing the same thing. Since I was out of warranty, I picked up these, hoping they would mask the bubbling. They have exceeded above and beyond my expectations! Not only have they stopped the bubbling, but you can't even tell the drum pads below them have bubbled. They've also been excellent in reducing the noise as the foam absorbs the shock. These silencers "elevate" the pad a bit so it reduces accidental hits on the plastic as well. Definitely worth the money! |

These pads aren't magic. They won't silence your drum hits, and they won't give you the bounce of a real drum head. However, they're definitely an improvement over the stock drums, and their price is good.
I went ahead and popped off the drum heads and unscrewed the rims, and I'd recommend that for anyone else considering these. Other reviews can give you better instructions on that. |

So I recieved the silencers yesterday and tried them out this morning. The silencers are kind of a hassle to put on and I actually during the proccess I found out that my yellow drum pad was broken. The pads DO reduce the sound A LOT. After I installed the silencers and re-glued the yellow pad I tested the silencers on the song "Maps" on RB 1. If you've played this song before you know it has a lot of drums. On this song I usually get 98-99 percent playing on medium and hard and I got 79 percent. I noticed during the song that the drums were not recognising a lot of my hits unless I hit pretty hard. This probably won't be a problem for all those hard core drummers who hit the pads hard. Now I had to buy new drums because the silencers will not come off without leaving behind a sticky mess and my yellow pad is busted. IF YOU'RE LIKE ME AND PLAY ON MEDIUM-HARD AND HIT AVERAGELY HARD DO NOT BUY THESE. If you play on Hard to Expert and wail on those drums then these are a good idea. Oh I almost forgot... the pads add a bit of bounciness to drum rolls but it doesn't matter since they don't even register!! Overall do not buy these.
