Better than the plastic toy controllers

Review Date: May 12, 2009
Reviewer: Anthony Pezzini,
For what it is, this real sized guitar controller beats the the plastic controller hands down. However for kids, this guitar might be a bit too big.

Out of the box, set up was a breeze, however there is a distinctly different feel to the buttons and strum bar, during game play. After some 'shimming' (Google It) of the buttons, the buttons did respond better.

In my opinion, this controller will never be 100% exactly in sync with either game (GH/RB) just because it's a 3rd Party Controller, but it's close.

Additionally, I also can't say this is the best choice for die hard gamers, but getting it for the casual.."I've watched my kids play and I think I could do that" gamer...it'll be fun.

I had an opportunity to pick one up for $50, during a 1 day only online sale, but passed because I wasn't sure of the quality, etc. (I couldn't find it in any stores to test.) Afterwards, my niece and nephew both wanted to play guitar, so I picked up a GH Brand controller so they both could play. It was junk. I took it back, did some research and found this controller on Amazon for a little more than the 1 day sale price, so I got it. However, I don't think I'd spend the $100+ on it, mainly because I'm cheap.

Overall, I'm very satisfied with the controller, the kids are happy...big kids too. I'd recommend it if you're comfortable with the price point you find it at.
good idea

it is a good idea, but i did not like the raised buttons (i prefer the buttons on the rock band guitars). Also, the buttons on the neck are too hard to push down. I missed a lot of notes because it was too hard to press the all the buttons except for the top two.
Mixed opinion

Reviewer: AEpack2006, VA, USA
I got this guitar with high expectations. It is basically a real guitar that has been turned into a controller for Rock Band and GH3, which is pretty cool. Its a much different feel from the normal controller (a very good kind of different). It seems to be pretty good quality, except for that the wooden neck either was cracked on arrival, or cracked within a few days of me having it (not cool). Seems the wood isnt of the best quality.

Unfortunately there's more bad than good to this guitar when it comes to playability. The buttons are raised and spread apart, definitely different from the rock band version, meaning its a bit harder to slide the fingers up and down (not that big a deal). Theres also an issue with the "star power" function. I have to lean the guitar below horizontal, then heave it up in order for it to start the energy deal. Or I can just play normally and it'll start at random...interesting feature (sigh)....The biggest issue I have though is that the buttons dont register very well with the game - I have to mash them down in order for a note to play, which becomes very tiring (mentally and physically) after just a few songs....

So bottom line....it seems like a great controller, looks and feels nice. But when it comes to actual playability, it definitely is sub-par, which is where it counts! I guess thats what you get with a controller that wasnt originally built to be a controller. Two stars.

This is what I was waiting for. I had seen other "real" guitars modded for GH and cost a ton of $$$ so I had to get this. I was trying to find some reviews but not that many out there. The product itself is built pretty solid. The one issue I have which is maybe prompting a return is that along with other users, I find the fret buttons are not very responsive. If you press down, 95% of the time it will register. Also, when holding down a fret button for a long note, sometimes the note will cut out. I already sent an email to Ashley and am waiting for a response. I also have been toying with the idea of opening it up and maybe swapping out the fret buttons for ones on one of my other wireless guitars but they don't seem to line up. After hunting around online, I found a site that gives step by step instructions to fix the button issue by putting shims under them because they are hollowed out to much over the rubber button that gets pressed. This seems to be a common issue so I might try that. If that corrects the problem, this controller rocks and I would recommend this controller.
Great controller that takes some getting used to

Review Date: January 17, 2009
Reviewer: C. Bireley,
Okay, so I have had the Rock Axe for about a week now, and I can give some feedback regarding it.

First off, it looks fantastic. Having a real sized guitar and one that is made of great materials really makes a huge difference.

Aside from just the 'feel' and aesthetics, here is a breakdown of the individual areas that pertain to the 'controller' aspect of it.

But before I get into that, I must say the type of batteries you put in this makes a big difference. When I first got it, I just put in some rechargeable AA I have had for years. This made me think the controller had a bad wireless connection and was overall not too responsive. Then I picked up some of the fancy Energizer batteries made for hi-tech devices, and it began to shine.

The whammy bar is far, far superior to the default controller. Both in terms of build quality and ease of use. It's a little smaller overall and closer to the controller which makes using it a breeze.

The strum bar starts out tight and needs to be `broken in' so to speak. But its tactile feedback is also much better than the regular controller.

The misc. buttons (start, select, d-pad, selector switch) are all overall better visually and also in better locations on the guitar.

The top fret buttons are a bit further away due to the fact that this guitar is of actual size, thus the neck is longer. I actually find it a bit more comfortable this way. The bottom/solo fret buttons are the same spacing as the top buttons, which is too bad, since I liked how close they are on the default controller. Fret buttons overall feel a touch farther apart, they also don't butt up against each other, which is both good and bad. Good is that you aren't as likely to press a wrong button, bad is that pressing two buttons with one finger isn't as easy. This also could be colored by the fact that my fingers aren't as large as some people's. The buttons also take more pressure to activate than the default controller. Ashley Ltd told me they, like the strum bar, will `break in' over time with use.

All in all, I recommend this guitar, but do know that it will take a little getting used to it and also to put in some good batteries and expect that it needs to be `broken in.'

Great game for the racing enthusists. I only like sports and racing games and this game is worth it's cost. Racing gets progressively harder, but practice makes perfect. Great for the games library.

Its too bad there aren't more reviews of this game, I think anyone who enjoys racing games will like this. I prefer racing games over any other so I have seen the good and bad. Also, having rode snowmobiles alot I can say this is a good game in terms of recreating the experience. The beginning races of career mode aren't too hard and give you a chance to win & upgrade, and the advanced tracks are harder so it keeps it challenging (such as some tracks that have stretches of ice which I have not mastered yet). The graphics are not great (the only reason I didn't give it a full 5 stars) but not bad and offer cool tracks and alot of custom colors to your sled. I highly recommend this game!

Story
In the distant past the universe of X-Blades was ruled by two powerful beings, the Enlightened on the side of good, helping his people how and when he could and the Dark One who was quite the opposite. Both were revered by all peoples and a balanced, but never-ending battle between the two persisted for centuries. Humans suffered terribly in the constant combat between the two, combat which shook the universe to its very core. In order to ease this suffering, the Enlightened banished the divine power of the Dark One, imprisoning it in a stone, known as an Artifact, but at a price. Inseparably linked, where one of the divine beings went the other was bound to follow and so the power of the Enlightened was captured in a matching Artifact. Together the two were hidden away and peace, as well as balance was restored to the universe. But peace is a fragile thing. It is said that any human who comes in contact with the Artifacts will be cursed and the power of darkness will once again be awakened.

Enter the game's heroine Ayumi. As the game begins a map which has been lost for countless years suddenly turns up and it shows the location of the artifacts. Unaware of the curse, the adventurer Ayumi searches for and finds the immensely valuable stones, releasing powerful forces in her body. Her goal and the player's is to discover what the secret of the curse is, free herself from it and at last defeat the darkness.

Characters

Ayumi from 'X-Blades' Ayumi
Ayumi is a charismatic heroine and fearless treasure hunter. Now that the map with the Divine Artifacts has been found, she's going on the most thrilling and dangerous adventure of her life. As always, she prefers to work alone - partners just get in the way.
Jay from 'X-Blades' Jay
Jay is an adventurer like Ayumi. He rescues her from a deadly trap and attempts to support her in her fight against the Powers of Darkness. Jay is skillful in combat. He uses powerful explosions of light and his punches have to be seen to be believed.
The Enlightened from 'X-Blades' The Enlightened
A powerful being who guards the Artifact of Darkness, as a Master of Magic, he uses spells to hurl opponents to the ground and metes out massive damage, but avoids close combat. The only way to defeat him is to use black magic and/or fire magic.
The Dark One from 'X-Blades' The Dark One
The Dark One is the guardian of the island - he conceals the Artifact of Light. Even the most powerful spells hardly affect him and only a strong blow with a blade can break through his defenses and affect him in any way.

Gameplay
X-Blades offers action-packed enjoyment in fantastic Hack-and-Slash style. Using various weapons, spells and tactics, the player must fight his/her way through many indoor and outdoor levels, killing hordes of monsters on the way. The story, exciting and rich in variety with numerous cutscenes not only motivates the player, it also cleverly interlinks the individual levels. Besides the ‘normal’ monsters, there are also "Monster Generators," which ceaselessly create new creatures (and of course powerful Boss opponents) for the game world. Hidden powerups and coins ensure that the player is rewarded for exploring a level. Some locations can only be reached by bold and daring leap/jump combinations.

Player achieve ultimate success in the game through use of the extensive character development system for the heroine Ayumi. For example, experience points earned, must be converted to Skills. Powerups, such as combat techniques, magic, weapon enhancement and teleportation are available as well and the right mix will lead to success. Apart from that, the use of skills on the "good or bad side" also affects the finale. Depending on player actions, two different game endings await the heroine Ayumi.

Key Game Features:

  • Gripping fantasy story with spectacular landscapes and characters.
  • Attractive anime-style heroine.
  • Special Alternate “Demonic Power” mode.

Good for about 3 or 4 hours then dull...

Review Date: February 20, 2010
Reviewer: PG, San Diego, CA
I was actually enjoying this game until I realized that I had seen all there was to see in this game after about 4 or 5 hours. Even the arena start being recycled and battles involving ball of energy that you have to throw countering balls of energy just isn't any fun. If they would have just stuck with the hack and slash and gun play with magic element, this game could have been a winner. I guess it is an okay value at about $20 new. Just don't expect any kind of depth.

Story: There really is no story to speak of. Just a ditzy annoying blonde with her butt hanging out saying things like "oh my god" and "no way."

Graphics: Pretty nice until everything ends up looking the same but just different times of day

Gameplay: Okay but the swords feel pretty weak. How did this game get an M rating? SUrely, her wearing a thong is not enough is it? There is no gore and you really feel like you are hitting the monsters with uncooked spaghetti with the effect your blows have on the creatures.

Overall: Can't recommend at $60 but for $20 there is enough here for a few hours of fun and you check out her butt...

I have played many games like this over the years, both good and bad. Unfortunately this one falls into the bad category. If you want a good run around action adventure game get Uncharted. X-Blades has a bad story, bad acting and a wonky camera. The controls are mostly just button mashing. The anime styles graphics are fair to poor. I would certainly rent this one before thinking about purchasing.

BEWARE! This game is horrible! The story line is non existant, The Voice acting is worse than hentai and the battle system is a flawed button masher that leaves no room for any skill and it doesn't even have any satisfying combos. Stay away and for the love of god do not give as a gift.

Flawed Control Scheme Brings Down Otherwise Mediocore Title

Review Date: March 16, 2009
Reviewer: B. D. Tooley, Anchorage, AK USA
I remember when X-Blades was getting close to release and the preliminary reviews did not tilt favorly towards this title. At the time I was interested with the idea of an anime hack and slash game and thought that while it had problems, they would not be so major that the game would become unplayable. My faith in the game was only partially rewarded. The game looks decent enough, but seems like its technology is visually dated. However normally graphics don't make or break a game for me because I prefer a good story over awesome graphics. The plot is a little weak and really jumps into the story without explaining really anything more indepth than we have a treasure hunter who finds a map to these ruins which I will now move around in.

And that finally brings me to the controls and battle which is the main focus of the game. I realize that this game is trying to shoehorn quite a few different actions on limited buttons, but there must have been a better way to layout the controls (all controls are for the PS3 version). Movement is on the thumbstick, jump assigned to X, attack to Square, and firing the Guns is R1 (top right shoulder button). That leaves Triangle, Cirlce, R2, and L2 to assign to the various magic in the game. Using all those buttons for magic makes it that much more difficult to do the battle combo system. The game character can do a double jump but it isn't fluid and I can't seem to be able to do it when I want to because it needs to be at just the right moment when you press the button. Also the fact that I have no real control in the air makes it difficult to move in the air with a double jump. A forward roll should have been easier than a precise forward, forward and X button combo especially when trying to dodge enemies or level hazards. You are supposed to be able to dodge attacks and a double directional move but it never seems to work right. After playing games like God of War and its ilk where battle is key to the entire game, having a game where battle is key to the entire thing and to be hindered by the control system, it is incredibly annoying when trying to do anything more basic than button smashing. Also the combo system that exists at the point of the game I am at, consists of two moves that are difficult to pull off at will (let alone when you do it by accident) and it ultimately makes me resort to button smashing and magic smashing to try and survive.

A few control tweaks and perhaps a training arena for trying out new magic, attacks, and combos would have made this game much more enjoyable and would not make me want to throw my controller across the room when I can't perform the really basic combos. My recommendation would be to rent this game or get it used because I just can't justify paying full price for a game when there are much better and much easier to control games available.

(this recommendation is only based on playing the game up to the point when you unlock the first set of combos and not at the end game where a review of this nature should have been done)
Raid with Blades

Reviewer: AMP, Somewhere on Earth

Premise
*You play a young treasure hunter who discovers a special artifact that appears to consume her.

The Good Things
*With the exception of the cutscenes, which were made to look like cell-animated anime clips, the game has great graphics. Sound quality seems good.
*Gameplay is like a combination between "Tomb Raider" and "Conan." You spend your time exploring ruins and chopping up evil creatures with swords, guns, and magic. On top of all that, I love the way the character runs really fast.
*Controls are easy to use, and some of the buttons are customizeable.
*Level design is good. Each environment is split into levels that you can move back and forth through.
*The story is good.
*Characters are alright. The main character has quite an attitude that you will either love or hate. She looks great though, and much like "BloodRayne," she is...uhh...quite jiggly.
*Awesome music.
*Has trophies.

The Bad Things
*No multiplayer.
*Not for kids; rated M for bloody violence (although you can turn the blood off in the options).
*Even though it is easy enough to kill the hoards of monsters that come out at you, it can be a bit annoying when they gain up on you while you're trying to attack the boss monster.
*I think the cutscenes look kind-of gaudy. I am glad that the rest of the game is not rendered the same way.

I was initially worried about the wierd cell-animated cutscenes and the main character's attitude, but the gameplay itself turned out to be quite fun, and the graphics are good. If you're looking for a fantasy adventure with lots of intesne fighting, this should satisfy you.
pretty good but not god of war good!!!!

x-blades was not even on my radar when i made up my list of games to get in '09, but i clicked on it on another website to check it out and it looked ok so i decided id give it a go when i had some money to spare. So i got the killzone pre-order for valintine's day and now i had some money burning a hole in my pocket. So ill set this up i love hack and slash games they are my fav until they bring back brawlers like streets of rage and double dragon or battletoads.....anyway this game came along so i gave it a whirl, and its pretty damn good with a emphasis on the pretty. The graphics are good on the environments and the anime cut scenes are pretty decent. You can custimize your controller layout so make it how you like and go to town also ive heard some gripes about ayumis attire... while she does have a nice butt that should not be the focus of so much rage and or praise (besides she does get different armour throughout the game) that should be givin to the gameplay while not innovative at all it is fun and after all what is playing games about? FUN!!!!!! this game is fun. So in conclusion i recommend this game to all hack and slash fans, go out there and enjoy ayumis adventure.
X-Blades Delivers What Promised

Review Date: February 15, 2009
Reviewer: Daniel Dearden, Bozeman, MT, USA
What did X-Blades Promise? An action packed, fast paced, hack and slash style game, with a gorgeous main protagonist and the gorgeous scenery that surrounds her.

If you've been following/researching this game at all, you should know exactly what you're getting into when you buy it. I found this game to be everything I wanted and more. If you enjoy fast paced, hack and slash action with a little magic to mix things up, you'll really enjoy this game.

The story, well it's okay, it's definitely not bad, it could be better, but that's definitely not why I bought this game. The game provides plenty of action and customization. You earn Soul Points and spend them on new magic and upgrades (much like Devil May Cry). The levels are well thought out, and so are the enemies. The soundtrack is great, the game looks very pretty (including a very pretty main character if you haven't noticed already). And sure, I could compare it to DMC, GoW, Heavenly Sword and the bunch, but to be honest, this game has a very different and unique style, and although it draws a few parallels to the aforementioned games , it's definitely a game of its own. I definitely recommend picking this one up, it's not too short, not too difficult but still a challenge (especially pro, once you unlock it).

Make sure you give this game a couple hours before you judge it, it starts a little slow and the combat feels awkward, once you play for a few hours, get more magic, and really get a feel for how the game is played, you'll find yourself unable to put your controller down.
X Blades a Hack and Slash Review

Review Date: February 13, 2009
Reviewer: GT, usa
I just bought X Blades and played the game last night and here is my opinion of the game so far. It starts off a little slow you find out your a treasure hunter named Ayumi who works alone you find this cube puzzle and when your turning in this crystal skull to a merchant you see a matching puzzle. She notices another cube puzzle while the guy is looking for a price on the skull the cubs connect and make a dark portal and she fights the creatures taking the merchant with them. The cubes then turn into a map and you start off on level one. It teaches you the basics which every game does and when you can learn a new move it will also inform you of it.

The story could use some work to me but I do like how it just jumps into the game right away. Now I am the hack and slash kind of guy pretty much what each level looks like is a big area where you fight multiple of monsters or creatures. The boss fights also have a lot of enemies around them. The fact I like a lot about this game is that you can use spells and guns its nice because they only cost RAGE which you get from attacking enemies with swords or they attack you. To get your spells you need to kill the monsters and if you get multiple attacks on many enemies without being hit you then get a bonus and you receive more souls for the creatures you kill.

The Souls you receive are for the certain spells you can get as in ice arrow, transformations, coating your blades with fire or lightning. You can also use the souls for health or a full rage bar the higher the level the more souls you pay to use these. You also need to look for artifacts they are hidden in breakable items such as tombs, urns and so on. The artifacts come in pieces of 3, also there are 3 of each type. 1 to upgrade you weapons and weapon damage, 1 to upgrade you spell power, and 1 to upgrade your gun shooting and damage.

The Graphics to this game are amazing in my opinion again and I did like to see all the amazing scenery. I also like how you can set your skills to certain control buttons and customize the control how you mainly want it. I also liked all the music that played while the fighting took place as in techno and some rock and roll I really like that aspect of the game as well. There is some lag when fighting multiple enemies at once but its not that bad and well worth this game.

I would recommend this game to anyone who likes Devil may cry and God of war even though you don't run through the level the fighting is exactly the same and you just hack and slash things to bits or fry them with spells.

Enhanced Tag-Team Matches and Other New Match Types
Tag Team matches are emphasized in Smackdown vs. Raw 2009, and there are many new additions to make the game more realistic and fun. Players can now perform double teams on opponents, such as having one player hold an opponent against the ropes while on the apron, or pulling down on ropes while an opponent is running to send them out of the ring. And there are now different ways of tagging in, such as the forced blind tag and reversible hot tag. Teams also get team-specific finishing moves that are incredibly satisfying to perform.

In addition to tag matches, there are 14 one-on-one match types including the Inferno, Gauntlet, Falls Count Anywhere, Steel Cage and Ladder matches, and even a Backstage Brawl.

Road to Wrestlemania Mode
The single player Road to Wrestlemania mode offers a deep and diverse story line that is filled with brand defections, team building, and strategic alliances. You can choose from Triple H, CM Punk, The Undertaker, John Cena, and Chris Jericho to play in this single-player mode. There is also a story line for co-operative play, in which players control Batista and Rey Mysterio. The story lines are so custom tailored and well done that you might find them more compelling than what you see on television.

Play Online and Download New Content
You can play against friends online in different matches, and this time, voice support has been added so you can trash talk to your heart's content. Additionally, you can also download new content to keep the game fresh.

WWE fans and fighting game fans alike will both love this latest game, giving them a chance to grapple as their favorite superstars.

Best Smackdown vs. Raw title made

Review Date: August 7, 2009
Reviewer: O. Chance,
The main thing about this game that is better are the controls. Anybody can grab the controller and perform suplexes or superstar finishers. WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2010 is around the corner so I expect that game to be awesome as well. If you want to get this game for the lower price at this time I highly recommend. You will be amazed by the various match types, numerous superstar selection to choose from, the realistic graphics and great overall gameplay.
Why are you playing this crap?

Reviewer: P. Cote,

While all of you WWE marks are still complaining about THQ/Yuke's continuing dilution of this series with crappier gameplay every year. I'm still playing FIRE PRO WRESTLING RETURNS 2 years later. From epic singles matches to the amazing tag-team A.I., FPR is heads and shoulders above this overly expensive shiny piece of "Sports Entertainment" and will be for years to come.
Awesome game

Good For a Few Hours

Game's appeal died down rather quickly for me. Roster is not very good according to past games. There isn't any real high profile past names to unlock other than Flair which is kind of disappointing. There are other wrestlers, but they aren't wrestlers I really care for.

Only interesting thing about the game for me is the new gameplay which is easy to get used to. However, the moves list feels rather limited compared to past games. It was fun in the beginning, but faded really fast. Story modes also didn't help much. They are only available for a selected few. Found myself just skipping and getting everything done quickly so I can just unlock the secrets. Only made it threw three of the seven.

Played the game for two days and was already pretty bored with it. If you're yawning while playing a game, this usually isn't a good sign. Traded it in back to Amazon for a gift card instead. This series seems to be getting old with every new iteration that comes along. Heres Comes the Pain and Shut Your Mouth are still my favorites.

All in all, I don't think it's really the game that I disliked, but the fact that my interest in WWE has declined. There is no longer any attachment to any wrestler and this was a big appeal to me. If I don't care for the wrestlers, the fun will be short lived. I guess I just miss the Rock, Stone Cold, Bret Hart, Goldberg, Kurt Angle, and all the big stars of the past who used to be in the series. The roster just seems like fillers now.
THQ gets worse with each new release

Review Date: May 31, 2009
Reviewer: A Forest Fan, USA
Want fewer wrestlers, fewer wrestling moves, a smaller plot, less voice acting, less animation of commentators and general managers? Then this is the game for you!

With each new game release, somehow THQ delivers less. Those who played the older PS2 versions of this game, Shut Your Mouth or Here Comes the Pain, will notice that there is a lot less GAME here than in the games before. And that's sad. This is the PS3, you think you'd be getting MORE game, not LESS. But you'd be wrong!

Remember how you used to be able to wrestle The Rock, Stone Cold, Kurt Angle, and a whole slew of midcard wrestlers? Well not anymore! It's as if there were only 10 or 11 wrestlers on three different shows (RAW, Smackdown, and ECW), and that's all they could put in this game. It's a wonder they even have a tag team division, considering how few wrestlers there are in this game to go around.

But there are a lot of little touches that are missing from this game, it's as if whole game modules from previous games were never coded, or converted to the PS3. For instance, previous games animated the commentators telling you about that night's show. Now, it's a still image while the game loads. The game used to be able to do more, now it's less!

Lots of little touches are gone. Remember how if you bloodied a wrestler, if there was a cutscene after the match, the wrestlers were still bloody? Now that only happens some of the time.

It's as if they spent all of their time coding arena fireworks and entrance walks, instead of the actual wrestling. Remember how injured wrestlers might have an injured head, torso, or legs? Now they just hold their heads. And forget about having a slew of wrestling moves. It seems as if every wrestler now has about the same 4-5 moves. Variety is too hard to program, says THQ!

Lazy, lazy programmers, putting together only a few features to ship this piece of junk out. THQ should be ashamed of themselves. The people writing 5 star reviews for this game have never played the older series, or are THQ employees faking their reviews. Don't buy this, go get a used copy of "Here Comes the Pain" (PS2) or "Shut Your Mouth" (PS2) to see what an actual wrestling game looks and plays like!

Reviewer: Martial Tam,
I like wrestling games so I thought this was pretty good. Although it would have been nice if they could have included some legends such as Steve Austin etc. Overall, this is a good game and if you are a fan of wrestling games then I recommend this.
Outstanding!!

The game provides a lot of fun with different alternatives. You can play the ginmicks matches either as single or as a tag team. [...]I highly recommend it.

This is an entertaining and fairly easy to learn game on the PS3. The graphics are pretty good although some of the characters (especially the Divas) still could appear a little closer to their real life counter parts. I enjoy the fact that there are several sub games (Roads to Wrestlemania) and many different superstars you can play as, as well as a plethora of types of matches you can have in "exhibition mode". I am most familiar with 1st person shooters, but this is a fun fighting game that I will be playing for quite some time.

Ummm, this is ridiculous. I mean all they have to do, is one simple thing. All they need to do is update the smackdown vs raw 2006 game. How hard is that? Why Can't they possibly see that smackdown vs raw 2006 is the best wrestling game ever? Folks take my advice, do't buy this damn game. Stick with the 2006 version, no wrestling game will ever top svr 2006.
My kids love it.

Got this for my 14 year old son & 8 year old daughter. They love it & play it quite often. It's one of the few games they can play together I think. I've even played with them & enjoyed it.

Players will experience the intensity, diversity and claustrophobia of a modern conflict from the unique perspectives of an infantry marine, a helicopter pilot, a Special Forces officer or a tank commander, each engaged against the full force of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) on a scale never previously experienced in a military action title.

    Story
The 220-square-kilometer island of Skira, located off the eastern coast of Russia, north of Japan, is an oil-rich Russian-controlled island that stands on the brink of war. An airborne division of the PLA lands to claim the island as the sovereign possession of the People’s Republic. Russia turns to the US for support aid and they’re quick to respond. Sending in the USS Iwo Jima, an expeditionary force of US Marines launch an assault on the strung out, but dug-in Chinese force. Can the situation be defused before this flashpoint turns white hot and an all-out global war between the superpowers erupts?

    Gameplay
Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising is an open-world tactical shooter designed to realistically represent modern infantry combat. In it players will utilize the game's Quick Command radial menu to dole out commands to their unit. These commands include directives like ordering them to stay put, to follow you, to fire at will or only after your lead, and to assemble into various tactical formations. With a wealth of weapons and vehicles available, engagements can play out very differently depending on tactics and the pros and cons of chosen armaments. The game features set missions as well as quick fight, fire team engagement and several multiplayer modes for varied gameplay. Another prominent and realistic gameplay consideration is its extensive and persistent damage model. This relates both to the environment and the soldiers under player's command in that buildings destroyed, stay destroyed and casualties can be inflicted immediately with a single bullet or develop from wounds not tended to.
